Updated and Improved
Updated and Improved Newsletter Evangelism Approach Using

Muscle And A Shovel

This new approach incorporates a smoother, simpler and more effective approach to my Newsletter Evangelism program. The basic, primary goal is to get friends, neighbors and even strangers to read and have a salvation dialog with you after reading Michael Shank's Muscle and A Shovel book, which has been documented to have resulted in the baptism of tens of thousands of folks! This approach introduces people we already know, as well as strangers in neighborhoods in our church community, to highly popular religious newsletters, then to Mike's book, with the hopes of having a conversation about obedience to the gospel.

First of all, download all 25 newsletters and present them to the congregation so that they can see what they will be sharing with friends and neighbors. Also order multiple copies of Michael Shank's book, Muscle And A Shovel and encourage members who haven't read it to read it.

The initial introduction to our friends and neighbors begins with the distribution of the newsletters! For our friends and relatives what I suggest is to place the first 3 issues of the Neighborly News in an envelope along with a nice note letting these folks know that you thought they would enjoy reading some very interesting newsletters your church is sharing with friends and you wanted to include them in this program! Then the next week you send these same folks another set of new newsletters (issues number 4, 5 and 6) with or without a note. The third week you repeat the same process with newsletters number 7, 8 and 9. Finally, your fourth mailing which contain newsletters 10, 11 and 12. After these people have had a chance to read these newsletters, give them a call and ask them what they think of the newsletters! Let them know that your church is involved with 'community outreach' and your church is using the newsletters in an effort to improve and inspire the community to a closer walk and relationship with God. Secondly, ask them if they think the newsletters are a good idea for a 'community outreach' church project! Most people will respond in an affirmative manner to these two questions!

Now this is when you make the smooth transition to an invitation to read the Muscle And A Shovel book! A this point you thank them for their thoughts and participation in your church evaluation of your newsletters! Then ask them if they would be so kind as to evaluate an extremely popular faith based book that your church will also be sharing with folks in your community? Tell them that your outreach is a two part program involving both the newsletters and the book. Let them know that their evaluation of the book can help in the evaluation of this outreach program and would be greatly appreciated! If they participate in the book evaluation, they will have the choice of returning the book to have it shared with others, or they can keep the book and share it with their friends and loved ones! All you need from them is their thoughts about the book as a tool for your church outreach program! There you go!

Now you can ask them ask questions like, "What did you think of the book?" "What did Mike learn about the gospel and what it means to obey the gospel?" "Can people be saved without obeying the gospel?" Can a person be saved by praying a sinner's prayer?" Etc. This is a basic outline for a mail out distribution to friends/relatives.

For a neighborhood mailing distribution to strangers, you can do your mailing as described above to a chosen neighborhood with a face-to-face follow up at the door. After a four week mailing, express your thankfulness to these neighbors for their help in evaluating the newsletters that were mailed to them and ask if they would they be so kind as to evaluate the extremely popular, faith based, Muscle And A Shovel book? Follow the book reading by an evaluation of that book with questions as described above.

For those of you who want to hand deliver your newsletters throughout your neighborhoods, I suggest that you pass out one newsletter 2 or 3 times a week until you have delivered about 6 to 9 newsletters to chosen communities. Then do your follow up with the same door knocking questions and book offer approach! Books may be ordered at MuscleAndAShovel.com or michaelshankministeries.com! All my newsletters are free for downloads and you can pick and choose your favorite newsletters for your newsletter program! Good luck and God's blessings on your evangelistic programs!
